The traditional American football teams are much more recognizable than the arena football players. The arena football players also get paid less than the majority of the players that are playing in the National Football League. A lot of this wage discrepancy comes from the fact that the National Football League has the ability to make a lot of money on advertising. The advertisers are willing to pay more because of how well known this league is. Knowing the difference between arena football and our traditional American football is integral in appreciating arena football. Once you understand the difference between arena football and traditional football you can decide for yourself which sport you like more. The biggest difference between arena football and traditional American football is the fact that arena football is played in an arena. The indoor aspect of the sport adds a whole new dynamic to the game. Traditional football is subject to the weather. The players have to play in the rain, snow, wind and sun. This means that no matter what is going on with the weather outside the arena inside has an optimal conditions. The mud, snow or rain will never be a problem for the players indoors. Some people believe that this is a part of football that should not be lost. The ability for players to play in the conditions adds an element to the game that many enjoy. There is something to be said for the quarterback that can throw a good pass even when it is raining and snowing. On the other hand there are people that think that the players should concentrate on how to play instead of adjusting for the weather. There is also a difference in how the ball is moved up and down the field. In Arena football the emphasis on movement is definitely on forward passing. In traditional American football it seems that the tradition is split pretty evenly between rushing the football and throwing the football. Although there is some rushing in Arena football it only consists of about 10 percent of the ball movement. There is also a big difference between the strategies that teams use to play. The main difference here stems between the differences of offense and defense. The new form of football makes players play on both offense and defense. The coach is only allowed a certain number of substitutions. The new season of arena football will change some of the rules regarding substitutions. This has been a very controversial decision. The new substitution rule will allow coaches to make as many substitutions as they want. For many diehard fans this takes a huge component away from the game. The men that play in this game used to have to have to have a lot of endurance and stamina. They had to have this characteristic because they would play offense and then turn around and play defense. If you are playing the traditional football there are different groups of people that play for offense and for defense. Whenever the ball changes possession a new group of men run out onto the field to play. This allows players to specialize in defense, offense or special teams. This specialization allows players to concentrate on very specific skills. If you are an offensive player you will have to know how to receive, catch and throw a football. If you are on defense you will have to know how to block plays and read the other team. There are also out of bound lines that are much stricter in traditional football. There are lines around the field and if you are not inside the lines when you have the ball your play is over. Arena football is very different in this sense because it is inside it is surrounded by walls that you are allowed to play off of. If someone runs into a wall they can continue the play. There are many people that learn more about both games of football and then decide that they like one more than the other. You do not have to choose between the games because you can easily be a fan of both.
