Drum Cones Enable You to Control the Flow

Article:Drum cones enable you to control the flow of dry materials you are dispensing from your drum. They fit over the top of the drum, replacing the drum lid and turning the entire drum itself into a precise pouring instrument. The drum cone is secured to the side of the drum by means of a clamp collar, which you can order in Carbon Steel or Type 304 Stainless Steel.

A slide gate or iris valve creates a variable aperture through which the drum contents can be measured and poured. Not only does this allow you to better control the pour, but it also extends the reach of the pour by up to 15.5 inches. When you need to reach beyond obstructions at the receiving container, a drum cone may be the only means you have of safely transferring drum contents.

In addition to the increased efficiency and superior ergonomics that controlled pouring offers the laborer, drum cones offer a number of additional benefits as well. They help greatly reduce dust when discharging dry material. This means less of a slip hazard (because dust can and will make a floor slippery) and less man hours spent on cleanup.

The slide gate opens and closes so rapidly that drum contents can be immediately dispensed and the pouring immediately stopped. This minimizes waste and makes measurement-oriented tasks much more precise. Any size drum can be fitted with one of these cones.

There are models for open-headed steel drums and for fiber headed drums. The angle of the drum cone is variable as well. You can choose between a 45 degree angle and a 60 degree angle to the 6 inch discharge opening. If you have special-sized drums in diameters 15 and seven eighths inch to 23 and three eights inch, you can also obtain drum cones in these cylinder sizes as well.

We generally recommend that if you use a drum cone with a slide gate when you are pouring powdered material. Coarse granulated products are better poured with an iris gate. The iris gate features a flexible sleeve and a handle that revolves around the sleeve. The operator can quickly open and close the sleeve by turning this handle. The gate is made to be used with products that have up to 60lbs. per 3ft of density. Anything at or below this range can be safely poured without clogging the sleeve.

You can also order specialty drum cones. Models are available with a valve flange that will attach to the valve of your choice. Other drum cones are available that feature no valve or slide gate and are simply 6 inch spouts that make pouring quicker and easier.

Ask a specialist about the style and diameter most suited to your drum pouring requirements and material handling process flow. Be sure to specify the outside diameter of the drum top, not the inside, when placing your order. For the most accurate measurements, remove the drum lid and take multiple measurements across the rim, then average the measurements.
