From Visionary to Realist Part 2

Article:Okay, so continuing on in our efforts to harness your creative genius, we have got the rest of the steps to take for turning your great ideas into reality.

Stay Accountable!
The next step you need to take is to get some method of accountability in place. This will help you keep track of your goals and be an early indicator if you are getting distracted or falling behind. Also, by tracking your progress, you can see if you are noticeably overachieving or underachieving your goals and whether some adjustments need to be made. Another reason for accountability is so that someone is there to help push you through your less favourite bits. So if you do not like making your follow up calls, you have to answer to someone as to why you have not done it. Being held accountable is an excellent tool to make sure that nothing slides by without being addressed, whether due to distraction, procrastination or, my personal favourite, busyness!

Get Counsel
I have found that the counsel from a business coach, field expert or mentor is an invaluable tool to have. I personally provide mentoring to the people I train because I recognize how it is absolutely indispensable to any business in any situation. I also utilize a business coach, consultants and mentors for various areas in my own business. So I am not just giving some good tips I am sharing based on what has helped contribute to my own success! A good counsellor (whatever the title) will bring in fresh perspective and point out loads of things that you do not see. They will also have a different take on your business, since chances are their experience with business is a lot different to yours, and they are not tied into your situation. They can also act as the person who holds you accountable to your goals, depending on the set up you have with them.

Delegate What You Can
Coming back to do not try to do everything at once, I am going to add another rule: Do not try to do everything yourself. You should absolutely outsource tasks that you do not have to personally do, and thus you can focus on what it is that you do best. A brilliant way of doing this is to use a Virtual Assistant they provide you with PA support paid for by the hour (so you only pay for what you need) and they do not take up space in your office. By outsourcing administrative tasks, you are freed up to do things that only you can do. It is a far more effective use of your time and will take some of the pressure of doing everything off of you and your staff. If you have an excellent sales team, why would you want them to waste time taking meeting minutes? If you need to be out giving quotes to customers or negotiating deals, why would you waste time answering phones or logging expenses? Get someone else to do those things so you can focus on your job, and they can take care of the boring bits.

So in short, get your vision down on paper in the form of goals. Figure out how you are going to achieve each of those goals in practical steps, and plan out your time so you are not wasting any efforts on unnecessary or distracting items. Make sure you have got someone around to keep you accountable and on track, and make sure you are getting expert outside counsel. And wherever you can, delegate tasks so you are free to do what you do best.
