| Title: | Highlights of Student Life on Campus |
| Article: | The saying goes that Life is what you make it, and it rings so true for campus student life as well. If you want your time at college to be nothing but academics and studying with no social life, then you will want to stay in your dorm room talking to no one except for venturing out to go to class. However, if you are looking to make student life every bit of all that it is cracked up to be, youll need to get out there and get involved with the students who surround you. There is a lot of student life that has all kinds of opportunities that go beyond the lecture halls and classroom, but they wont come to you; youve got to go and find these treasured opportunities. There are dozens of clubs, organizations, and groups that you can join to help your social life blossom while you are away from home, and there is always something going on that doesnt have anything to do with studying, which is important. All work and no play shouldnt be what college is about. Student life on campus should be about experience, growth, learning, and of course, fun. There are intramural sports available for students from volleyball to basketball to table tennis, and there are of course the collegiate teams as well. If you are not so much of an athlete, go out and support your teams. Go watch a swim meet or attend a football game for an adrenaline filled good time. Student life can also include special interest clubs like entomology clubs and things like SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving). Many times the dorms will organize trips to off campus destinations for students, and the academic clubs as well as the athletic clubs are often traveling for competitions. There are also music groups, clubs, and organizations for students who are musically inclined in any way. On nights that you just want to stay in and relax, dorms often offer movie nights and game nights for social interaction. Dorms are student run environments, and the trained resident assistants are responsible not only for counseling and guidance but also for organizing different events for students to take part in. There are hundreds of possibilities. Housing in itself comes with different kinds of socialization opportunities, as there are special interest housing and single sex dorms and halls and integrated dorms and halls as well. Student run clubs and activities are popular means of getting to know others while experiencing different aspects of student life at the same time. Many people choose to join a fraternity or a sorority as well, and socialization as we know are one of the foundations of these groups. In addition to entertainment and cures for boredom, many campuses offer ways to experience student life through volunteering. Volunteer opportunities can be found either on campus or off campus in the surrounding community, and range anywhere from working in the campus library for a few hours to building community homes with Habitat for Humanity. Student life on campus can take any turns that you want it to, so be sure to step out of your dorm every so often before the opportunity passes you by.
