Hiking Boots Accessories Selection Tips

Article:In the following lines I will discuss about some accessories which are supposed to be essential with the hiking boots. Our special focus will be on hiking socks and liners. There are some important considerations you should know, before you buy your hiking boots along with accessories.

Many of these accessories directly affect your choice of hiking boots. It becomes more important when it comes to select the best fit size of the boots. For your comfort and convenience, your hiking boots must fit your feet along with hiking boot accessories like socks and liners.

Two types of socks are available in the market and both are equally important for serious hiking tours. One is cushioning and insulation socks. Another one is liner socks. Liner socks are mostly needed when planning a tour for more than one day. You can easily omit them for a single day hiking adventure.

Of course, you will first choose the pair first. You must try your socks by wearing them before making any purchase. You may need two pairs of cushioning and insulation socks when you go for hiking in cold weathers. You must also wear you both pairs before selecting the hiking boots so that you feel yourself comfortable. In other words, you can say that the shopping of socks and boots go side by side.

You wear your liner socks first, hence they must be smooth. If you are going to change your socks after every hike, you can consider silk or sheer nylon socks. You can also think for very fine knit wool socks. It is not appropriate to go for polypropylene socks as they proof to be very rough as hiking liners.

You are also advised to try your socks for shorter hikes before taking them with you on long hiking tours. Alternately, you can go for your everyday walking and jogging with your hiking socks on your feet. If you feel that your feet get hot spots after few miles, then they will result in blisters on long hiking tracks. Therefore, it is good to test them at home, otherwise if you find them uncomfortable during your hiking tour; your whole adventure will be ruined. This rule equally applies to experienced hikers, if they are going for new socks or if they want to try another type.

You can replace cushioned insoles periodically. Although your hiking boots have already built-in cushioning, they give you extra comfort during your journey.

When you are going for hiking on ice or snow tracks, you can attach crampons to your hiking boots. Mostly they are metal spikes, but can be of plastic, which can be fixed with your boots. They are attached with adjustable straps or clamps.

To be short, when you go to shop for your hiking boots, you should first go for the accessories. First shop for you socks, then insoles and any orthopedic insertions goes afterwards. Last step is to buy your boots with everything on. Your boot must be comfortably fit to your feet. You should only shop for crampons, if you really need them.
