| Title: | The Basics Of Poker Explained |
| Article: | There is one thing that everyone needs to learn while playing poker; it is all about the cards! There is a certain hierarchy within the cards that are played and the hands that can be created that is mirrored through all the variations of the poker game as well as its many variations. Learning what constitutes a great hand and which hand will overpower another hand is an effective place to begin when learning how to play poker, especially online. Poker Hand Rankings Here are the rankings of poker hands, from lowest to highest: first, a high card can be shown down as a winning hand if opponents have nothing else to show to claim "the pot". Within the hand next possible hand rank comes a single pair, which is where you "match" another card (two aces for example. Two pair ranks next highest which is simply as it sounds, two sets of "pairs" which is followed by a very strong hand for showdown in three of a kind. An example of "three of a a kind" also called "trips" or a "set" is when you hold three Kings. The next and even stronger poker hand ranking is a straight, which means that all five cards must be in order of the hand, an example would be 5,6,7,8,9 or ten, jack, queen, king, ace. A straight is a very strong hand, and is worth going to war over in most situations. Next in hang rankings for poker is when a player makes a flush, which includes all cards within the hand being of the same suit. Moving into the strongest hands in poker, we have a full house. A full house is when a player makes both three of a kind and a pair, to combine into a five card hand "full house". Four of a kind beats a full house, an example would be holding four Queens. Next are the extremely rare hands which combine both straights and flushes to beat all other hands, a straight flush beats all other hands except one, the royal flush. An example of a straight flush is 6,7,8,9,10 of diamonds, and a royal flush has to be the ten, jack, queen, king, ace of any suit, all of the same suit. This may seem confusing but in time and with more developed experience you will know the value of your poker hand ranking upon only a quick glance at your cards, and thus play a smarter game against your opponents. There are many variations to poker, which is one of the aspects that make the game so unique to players. These variations include: Texas Hold-em in which each player within the game is dealt two cards than five cards are dealt on the table face up, which all the players in the game can used to combine with their two cards to create the best hand. There is Omaha and High/Low which uses a combination of cards that are shown to the other players and a combination of cards which are used face down and five of the seven cards available are used to create the best possible poker hand. There is the traditional five cards, or seven card game in which these cards are referred to as the community or "board" and the players can return cards to the deck to swap for new ones and a better chance of creating the best hand. With the combination of the games available and the excitement that can come with each round of betting, playing poker never gets old!
