The Nursing Profession – a New Era in Obama’s Presidency

Article:Since he won the race to the White House, Barack Obama has been exploiting his maximum effort to protect the rights and improve the standard of living of every worker in America. Obama sees that every worker should be offered reasonable pays, convenient health care services and a dignifying retirement pension. Moreover, Obama has been calling for securing the optimum working conditions for every worker in America. The nursing work market has been drastically affected by the recent economic recession. Accordingly, Obama continued his pre-presidential campaign to support the rights of every nurse in America.

As a senator of Illinois, Obama defied the odds to provide workers on the nursing sector with the best working conditions and wages that can ensure better standards of living for every nurse in the state. Now as a President of the United States, Obama is now calling for support of nurses all over America.

Obama believes that nurses shouldn’t be forced to work overtimes, unless they agree to do so. Researchers have always concluded that psychological comfort of the nursing personnel would minimize errors of practice committed by them. A nurse who has to work for extra hours is usually tired, nervous and unsatisfied. America’s new president is planning on passing a bill to vote that legally bans mandatory overtime nursing schedules.

Obama has led an initiative to ensure that hospitals and other health institutions are providing nurses with safe staffing environments. He insisted on examining proper infection control strategies to protect nursing staff from any disease acquisition. Obama’s plans aim to also ensure a reasonable nurse-to-patient ratio. In other words, nurses are assured they aren’t loaded with work. It is well known that nursing is amongst the commonest professions that can carry the risk of back injuries especially when nurses assist in mobilizing patients. Accordingly, Obama is planning on deploying “safe lift” and other technologies that are designed to prevent avoidable injury.

One of Obama’s targets is to get more Americans to the nursing profession. The work market has always been demanding more nurses. The nursing workforce has been shrinking lately, as school graduates now are more reluctant than ever to join nursing schools. Moreover, many nurses are changing their careers or even retiring at an early age. Accordingly, Obama is encouraging students to study nursing by giving cash incentives to students and trainees. The new Federal Pell Grant is inviting more teenagers and single mothers to study nursing for free and seize career opportunities that can be of great support to their beloved. Now, almost every single mother is eligible for receiving federal funds to help her go to nursing school. On the other hand, Obama has always been supportive of legislation to increased federal financial aid to nursing schools and institutions.

Nurses’ working conditions and standards of living have been at the center of attention of Obama since he won the presidential elections. It is well predicted that Obama’s proposed legislation and support will sure result in better lives for every nurse in America.
